ATP Synthase

This enzyme is found embedded in the membranes of virtually all types of living cells. It contains 24-30 protein subunits, depending upon the organism. Bacterial sources usually contain 24 proteins, such as from E. coli, as studied in this lab. These protein subunits are organized into 2 sub-complexes, traditionally called F1 and Fo.
